FAQ's

Who is eligible to be a member of the Illinois Seniors Golf Association (ISGA)?

Membership is open to any Senior (age 50 and older) who has a residence located in the State of Illinois or is a member of an Illinois golf club. All memberships are based on the calendar year.

What is the format?

We are currently playing a better ball of two team event. Each event includes 5-6 flights. Flights are determined by the registered field with a similar number of teams in each flight. We play from two sets of tees: the Murphy tees usually around 6,100 yards and a forward tee (the Schweik tees) usually around 5,700 yards. Prizes are awarded for places 1-3, gross and net, in each flight. You play the tees you want to play from. It's all about enjoying the day, the company, and the great courses we have the privilege of playing.

What are some of the courses you play regularly?

We play only country clubs in the greater Chicagoland area. In the past we have played Medinah, Beverly, Oak Park, Exmoor and Skokie among others.

What if I don't have a regular partner?

Not a problem. If you wish to play in a particular event and don't have a regular partner, we'll pair you up with someone of similar ability. Meeting new people is one of the great benefits of our organization and many new and lasting friendships have been formed this way over the years.

How many tournaments am I required to play?

There is no required minimum. You only pay for the events you play in.

As a new member what are my chances of getting into the events I want?

Events are limited to 144 players. Since not all members play all events due to other commitments, it is very rare to not get into an event. Signing up as soon as registration opens is the best way to ensure getting into the event.

What is included in in the initiation fee?

The one-time initiation fee includes, a Illinois Seniors logo hat, access to the Members Only portion of the web site and a small administrative fee. The initiation fee and annual dues admits you to the ISGA and makes you eligible to play in our events.

What is the average cost of an event?

The cost varies depending on what each host club charges us. The majority of our cost is passed directly through to our members with just a small fee to cover prizes, tournament set-up, pairings, scorecard preparation, and other administrative duties. A typical event runs between $175 and $250 per player which includes golf, range, attended locker room, prizes in each flight, cart fee, lunch, dinner and on course beverages (except alcohol). Alcohol can be purchased separately or charged back to your club.

What if I was a past member and wish to rejoin?

If you were previously an Illinois Senior and would like to rejoin there is no initiation fee. All you need to do is submit an updated application and a check for the annual dues ($150). Annual dues are pro rated for those who join between the 2 annual events.

What is the policy regarding bringing a guest to one of our events?

A member may bring a guest to an event providing there is room in the field and the guest meets the membership criteria of the ISGA. That is, he must belong to an approved club, carry a current GHIN Index and be sponsored by a current member. A particular guest can only attend one event.
